Naming or welcoming ceremonies are a popular way to announce a name and/ or celebrate the arrival with family or friends. Naming ceremonies are appropriate for anyone, at any age, from the arrival of a new baby, a uniting of step or adopted children within a family, or an adult name change, all are great reasons to hold a naming ceremony.
Naming ceremonies involve all the important people in the child’s life. Parents have the opportunity to ask other adults to play a supportive role to their child through to adult life (grandparents, godparents or mentors).
These can be done anywhere at any time and can provide a warm and personal welcome to our precious ones.
Naming Ceremonies can be done at a home, a park, restaurant, function centre or anywhere you feel comfortable and the venue is risk free.
Poems, readings , well wishes, speeches, songs and rituals can be incorporated into such a special event. Family members and special friends can be included to make the day truly memorable.
There is no set format for naming ceremonies, so it is completely up to you as to how you would like the event to be celebrated. Simone more than happy to discuss all options with you to ensure you are happy with the final result.
A possible format could be as follows;
– Welcome and Introduction of the child and the meaning behind his or her name
– A Reading
– A symbolic gesture such as a Treasure Box/Capsule
This can contain small gifts, photos, letters or written note cards. The capsule/box is presented to the child when they turn 18 or 21. Guests may bring an item to place inside, i.e. CDs, magazines, photos, newspaper clippings, coins, runes & crystals to symbolise different things like peace and hope; pebbles from someone’s favourite beach; a horseshoe for good luck; jewellery; a book, or a pressed leaf/ flower.
– Commitments and Promises from the Family/Supporters plus some celebratory music
– Presentation of Certificate
– A few words in thanks and conclusion
Let Simone work with you to create something magical that you can look back on for years to come…………
Remember a Naming Ceremony doesn’t just have to be for children. Maybe you have decided to change your name due a divorce. A ceremony is the perfect way to celebrate and start your new adventure……….
